There is sad news incoming from Chennai that veteran director Balu Mahendra is now no more. He passed away at a hospital in Chennai a few minutes ago. Balu Mahendra is one of the greatest film maker and storyteller that ever lived in Indian Cinema. He was 74. Making films over four decades, Balu Mahendra developed his own unique style of creating stories on the celluloid that were unknown to the cinema before.
Hailing from Srilanka originally, Balu Mahendra shifted base to Chennai in his early days for the pure passion of cinema. An esteemed alumnus of FTII Pune, Balu presented to the South films some of his impeccable works such as Kokila, Moondram Pirai, Veedu, Sandhya Raagam, Sadma (Hindi)and Olangal (Malayalam)
